Local travels

Well, I haven’t been “on the road” per se, but I have been on the trail: biking around Seattle enjoying the Summer. Looks like those days are gone, so here’s some sketches from the little sketchbook that I keep with me.

Extreme Bocci ball. All you need is a steep hill, a few friends, and a case of beer. Bonus points for bringing your dog who loses his mind wondering why you're throwing balls but telling him to not get them.

One of the zillions of tugboats in Seattle. This one was in one of the little shipyards that's under I-5. I was across the water in one of the zillions of mini parks around one of the zillions of lakes.

Golden Gardens beach house, after a lovely afternoon of beachcombing, followed by a trip to the locks, followed by a few rounds of Scrabble at Hale's.

View across the sound from Golden Gardens:

Freight train going by, also from Golden Gardens. There are signs on the fence that are not too subtle about staying off the tracks (two of the signs are memorials for local high schoolers who didn't quite get out of the way of the speeding trains).

Birds pecking at fish heads on the beach. We were trying to figure out what the birds were going nuts about, and then we realized that about a dozen fish heads had washed up on shore - yes there are lots of fishing boats out there. The gulls ate out the insides and the crows went for the eyeballs.

Trees around Gas Works park starting to turn. This was from my living room, actually, before going out for a ride.

A floating box with a Diver's Institute sign on it. Lots of strange things go by since Lake Washington connects to Lake Union which connects to the sound.

Industrial boats from Kite Hill at Gas Works park.

A floating home near Fremont. It's not actually listing like that, that's me having the sketchbook balanced on my lap while drawing.

Houseboats across the water from Gas Works (looking toward Eastlake).
