Thanksgiving sunset

Holiday sketches

Before I had my wonderful dinner, I went out for a ride and did a few sketches along the way.  The coloring is walnut ink with some watercolor, and I don't think I quite have the hang of this method, the browns just look dead to me:

Here's train people from Monday and Tuesday.

And from last week:

How to make Thanksgiving dinner

Remove the bag from the refrigerator:

Open the bag.  Remove the boxes from the bag:

Open the boxes:

Put a slice of turkey, half a baked potato, and some brussel sprouts on a baking sheet on which oil oil has been sprayed.  Turn on the toaster oven and place said pan inside for a while:

Remove said pan from oven, place said items (now warm) on plate.  Add salad from box.  Add various and sundry dressings from various and sundry containers.  Serve and eat.

Damn that was good!  Remove apple pie from fridge.  Hey some is missing already, that's odd.  Slice off a piece and enjoy!

Dinner in progress

Damn it is good. Pictures on "the making of" to come.

Pie day

We get pies for thanksgiving at work. I picked up my apple pie today - I may need to sample it to make sure it's ok! :)

The Easter Bunny came!

I walked into the cafeteria at work this morning and there were Easter baskets everywhere  and someone had flower-bombed Po:

There were also cupcakes and toothbrushes...

a slighting disturbing elf...

McDonald's apple pies...

and an ice sculpture:

I think that means there's a movie coming out.

Train people and Guardians

Here's the train from this past week - most folks survived my pen:

Today was a busy day: I started at the Market, getting my veggies for the week, then it was off to the theater for the employee showing of Rise of the Guardians.  I didn't have time to drop the veggies off at home, so I took my Kale with me!  We both enjoyed the show - our stereo guys did an awesome job and the story is really great.  I'd watched bits and pieces of it, but this was the first time I'd seen it all the way through.

The movie theater is just a few blocks from the Cartoon Art Museum, so I walked down to see the SketchTravel show, and they also had some concept art and models from ParaNorman there, which was very cool.  Oh, and among the comics they had a Prince Valiant - I'd forgotten about him!

Then the veggies finally made it home, and the kale is happy to be out of my backpack and in the fridge.

Back to the salt mines

That's it for vacation, now it's back on the train.  Some of these go way back (to the beginning of October).

Train action from this past week.  Wednesday was the glory parade for the Giants, and there were these wonderful signs on the muni trains like 'estimates are inaccurate' (then why do we have them?) and 'expect delays and reroutes' (um, what's a reroute on a train called?)

Today it was a ride around to Chrissy Field and a view of the Marin headlands.  Warm sunny day and a million people out at the beach!

More Chicago sketches

First, a few straight-up watercolors.  These two from the cabin in Indiana:

And some jellies form the aquarium:

These were all sketched in black in ink first, then colored later; more jellies and the view of the city from a park:

And a few more from Indiana:
