Random crap from desk

So, took advantage of the long weekend to finally open that box labeled "Random crap from desk."  Also the one labeled "Stuff to go through."  Both of these have been boxes of stuff for several years, moves, houses.  A veritable treasure trove awaited!  A VHS tape labeled "Thesis Master Copy" of my undergraduate documentary thesis circa 1991.  The original box for my Zune.  Also the postcards I bought on that trip to Alaska in 2002 and my cholesterol screening results from the same year.  The instructions for Simplicity pattern 9344, and the Getting Started Guide for MultiMate (to go with the 5-1/4 floppies).  Also a rubbing from something and my actual diploma from graduate school (2001).  Keys!  Car keys for the old station wagon?  The infamous Honeywell Bull alarm clock.  A small bar of soap from the Alaska ferry.  The Wheel of Vomit that a roommate got me from a Veterinary conference.  Several years of Bantha Tracks (the original Star Wars fan club newsletter).  Many of these items will go back in a box and be labeled "Time Capsule."  It will be a cardboard box so as to decay appropriately.  Don't worry, I did throw out the sugar packet and the Sucrets will soon follow.

Arastradero again

Much browner this time, but still quite pretty and some very nice wispy clouds.

Maker Faire

Once again it's time for Maker Faire.  What's Maker Faire you ask?  It's where steampunk meets science and you can watch a vaudeville show next door to the drone racing while a man drives by in a giant chicken and the Tesla coils spark in the background.  And then there's the person dressed as some sort of cross between and Egyptian god and a battle bot who's dancing to the Mariachi band on the stage that's powered by bicycles.  Also robots.  You can learn to knit (which I didn't do) or make a book on an old-fashioned letterpress (which I did do).  There are things that glow, and things that go bang, and things that glow and go bang.  I must say the moths spouting flames and the giant squid with a colander for an eye and rusty bottle caps for suckers were two of my favorites.  Also the zoetropes.  Thank God I brought a banana; I really needed my potassium by the end of it.
