Half-painted Monterey

Here's the sketchbook from my trip - I only painted about half of the sketches.  Many of them were done from a moving vehicle (on the way down), or in the dark (at the aquarium) or both (on the way back).  Now that's art!

Aquarium day! And mark your calendars for 2014 - they are planning a cephalopod exhibit!! Right now they have loads of jellies - in addition to their usual jellies they have The Jellies Experience, which is a bit more tie-dyed and neon and features a bunch more jellies including the Crown jelly - whom I think I found on the beach yesterday - and a number of nettles. The also had a cool thing where you could draw a jelly on a touch screen and it would project and swim on the wall.

There's a big seahorse exhibit, and a whopping huge lobster. They have a number of lobsters - who were very active and fighting - and one of them was huge. I named him "butter" :)

There were also some leaping blennies and I'll let you look that up. Then the whelk eating a shrimp and the hiding octopus and the sea cucumber who's just kind of there. Oh, and don't forget the wart-necked piddocks.

Alas their restaurant was closed for renovation so it was lunch from a package.

5 people 2 birds and hillside

Let's see, the birds and hillside are from Thanksgiving weekend - when the weather was gorgeous and people were out in the swimsuits at the beach.  This weekend it was pouring and people were inside.  It cleared up Sunday afternoon so I headed for Il Cane Rosso and had an amazing chicken and potato hash.
