A giant chicken (and other random sketches)

Catching up on the scanning... At the farmer's market there's a giant chicken.  Also, normal-sized roast chickens spinning gently.  Their chicken is quite good, although the fake one on top is a little creepy, actually.

Then there's the oddly-colored people at Mints & Honey.  Actually, they were find, but I decided to try colored pencils in this sketchbook and didn't have quite the right colors,.

Then there's that nice tree at Water Dog Lake.  I've draw this before because there's a bench right there.

And finally, there's the Concerts in the Park near my house with folks enjoying the music and dancing.  "Dancing" is a loose term which encompasses everything from a Tai Chi/ballroom dancing hybrid to flailing wildly.  But it's a lot of fun to go to the concerts.

These are all in a mini (3-1/2" x 5-1/2") pocket sketchbook that I'm trying out.  The size is handy, but this flavor has real watercolor paper, which at this small size is actually awkward since you need a brush that's bigger than the book to make it work well.

Sketching in the flight path

I took a trip over to the Japanese Garden a few days back.  Quite serene if you can pretend that's Taiko drumming in the distance rather than the effects of being in the flight path of SFO.

Quite pretty, and I got to see some red dragonflies!  I followed this with a cream Oolong tea at a cha place nearby.  The tea could take the paint off your car, but the cream was good.
