A few paintings that I'm going to stop fiddling with and declare "done." The contrast isn't really this intense in the painting of the Icelandic gorge, but getting the photos color balanced just right is its own project!

Girl with the Pearl Earring
Vermeer is making a Cameo in San Francisco - The Girl with the Pearl Earring is at the DeYoung, along with some other Dutch Masters. I took the train into the city on Sunday to have brunch with some friends and head over to the museum. Getting there was half the fun - turns out there was a Giants game so the train was packed, and late. Thankfully they were running late too! But we got our brunch (il Cane Rosso - my old haunt) and I also picked up some tea at the tea shop (three different kinds!) and we headed for the museum.
It was a beautiful day, and our timing was good too - there was no waiting to get in to the show, and it wasn't too crowded. There were a few really amazing landscapes and a vanitas that were gorgeous - I'd love to hang those on my wall! Girl had a little fence around her, and has been completely restored: It looks like it was painted yesterday. Hundreds of years worth of grime cleaned off and a wonderful frame. There were also some Rembrandts hanging around, and there's a reason they call him a "Master."
After the Masters, we checked out a few of the other galleries and boy were they a disappointment after looking at these guys! On a normal day, I am impressed, but after Rembrandt and Vermeer... Always see the masters last!

Water Dogs and friendly cats
This morning Himself was a lot friendlier - I think he had this realization after Mommy didn't come home last night that I was the one to scratch his ears. He was all purrs and rubs - to the point that my arm got tired!
After serving His Majesty, I headed out for a quick ride. I took my mountain bike up to Water Dog Lake, which was beautiful and sunny but windy as hell.
