Some coffee shop people

Here’s a few iPad drawings, done in Procreate at my favorite coffee shop.  First, a bookworm.  She never looked up from the book and may not move until she is finished!

This was the first time I'd seen someone work from a coffee shop in a suit!

Digital people at the coffee shop

I've got a backlog of coffee shop drawings.  These are all done in Procreate on my iPad in 10-20 minutes, mostly at Peet's Coffee.  I can make tea at home, but I really like the rotating selection of models that I get at a cafe!

These folks were either related or had known each other forever - they were talking about who's in jail and who's living in their car.

This was actually at a place called Mints & Honey, and this guy was doing a ton of Disney-style drawings.

Back at Peet's your typical Silicon Valley scene.

I see the cops at Peet's all the time, but this was the first chance I was in a good spot to draw one.  There's a lot of doodads on there, and it's hard enough painting black on black, but even harder when the sun is on your screen.

I love this one.  I remember the music was terrible that day but I had such a great scene to draw!

This woman was so engrossed in her kindle that she didn't notice that I was drawing her from four feet away.

And here's some videos of a few of the drawings.  Procreate saves these automatically.

Summer or winter?

The weather can't seem to figure itself out.  Saturday I went for a nice little hike.  I had to take off my hoodie because it was so warm.  Sunday I stepped outside of the house then stepped back inside - the temperature had dropped at least 15 degrees and it was blowing a gale.

Here's some picks from the hike - Arguello Park:

And a few nice sunsets thanks to the nice clouds:

And of course some Coffee Shop People (done on my iPad Pro using Procreate):

Drawing on trains and coffee shops

A few more of my drawings from the train and coffee shops.  All done in PicsArt in 20 minutes or less.

10 minutes on the train

Then they called out my stop. Didn't quite get the eyes right but it was time to get off. PicsArt on a Galaxy Note 4 with a stylus.

Wrong train

My favorite way to pass time on the commute: Drawing the other passengers.  This guy was surprised to learn that the train did not indeed stop at his intended destination.  Drawn on an iPad mini using PicsArt.

Unsuspecting passengers

Drawing on the train again.  Now I'm experimenting with dark backgrounds instead of white.  It's a whole different way of working.  I love it when they're sleeping - they are perfectly still and clueless that I'm drawing them from three feet away:

This guy with the beard!  He was sitting across the isle from me, and on the older trains, on the top level, there's this shelf.  So the top of his face is above the shelf and the rest of him is below, so I'm doing this weird dance in my seat where I'm craning my neck up to look over and then slumping down to look under.  I wonder if anyone else even noticed?  Then as I'm working on his hands we pull into my station so I'm saving the file as I'm walking down the stairs.  Pretty happy with how it came out!

Another sleeper:

Chalkboard!  White chalky brush on a blackboard background.  This guy was right across from me but pretty focused on his video game:

Inspired by Morandi

More digital drawing, this time on an iPad mini.  A little Morandi inspiration here.

Sketching at Half Moon Bay

Pony ride to Half Moon Bay today.  I did some sketching in the car and at the beach both old-school and digital.  The drive there (I'm not the one driving!):

The beach:

The same view in ball point pen, colored pencil, and watercolor:
