Here's a few sketchy people I've been running into on the train:
These are pen and ink - I find that the friction of the paper makes it easier to draw on a moving train - the the glass of an iPad just slides around. Top one is ballpoint pen; bottom is a brush pen.

Chicago sketches
I took a trip to Chicago last week. No, I'm not crazy, it was a business trip. During the day it was quite nice out, but once the sun went down - Brrr! Here's some pages from my sketchbook. I had a good view on the way over, and the way back was one long sunset. I was in a middle seat on that trip - but quite happy to have gotten on standby on the earlier flight since I was getting in late after three long days!

SATs and eels
In between drawing at the coffee shop, I took a little trip down to Monterey to walk along the beach and see the lovelies at the aquarium. The coffee shop doubles as Study Hall, and this guy had an SAT prep workbook the size of the Oxford English Dictionary. He said he had another one the same size at home and found it impossible to transport both at once. I don't remember my prep materials being quite so thick.
Other folks had more reasonably-sized accouterments.
The Monterey trip was beautiful. They kept predicting terrible wind and rain, but somehow I ended up under somewhat cloudy or bright-and-sunny skies and actually got a sunburn.
The aquarium calls for old-fashioned sketches, and it's fun sketching moving things in the dark, and always a surprise to see how the drawings look in the light.
