Ramshakle houses and evil

Ghastly weather (although less ghastly than yesterday) so only a short walk.  I finally sketched this ramshakle old houseboat that was assembled by a committee (whose members didn't like each other) and really is different shades of blue and small enough to be stacked chicken coops.

Then it was over to the Evil French Bakery for a cup of tea and a chocolate croissant - not their most evil thing, but quite good.

Way behind on my scanning

Well, I'm totally behind on scanning things, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been drawing!  Today I got to watch my neighbor scale the building and try to pry a window open after locking himself out.  At least, I think it was my neighbor...

The last few weeks have been the usual: Riding my bike and more riding my bike.  The surprising part being how they've clearcut the big trees along the Fremont Canal; not sure what that's all about.

There was also a really nice low tide on the first day of spring:

And the usual vistas around town:

And for bonus points, Wallingford:

Gray but OK

Yesterday was slightly gray, but OK for a ride. It’s been blowing a gale the last couple of days, but settled down – maybe the wind forgot to reset it’s clock? Some ducks, some boats, and a nice view of the Darth Vader building.

R is for Robot

From my Illuminated Manuscripts class.  This is in the Irish Insular style (like the Book of Kells) but with a slightly modern touch…  This is on hot press watercolor paper, but our next one will be on actual calfskin vellum.

University District tarts

No, it’s not what you think. I stopped for a chocolate tart on my way to the UDistrict. I did not sketch my tea as well, but I did think of Liz Steel while I did this one. I don’t think I’ve quite got the hang of painting tarts, but I’m getting pretty good at the U District.

Much colder than last week – what happened to our summer?

Telephone poles and sunny days

I’m behind on my scanning because the weather has been so nice, but it’s back to normal now so here’s an update…

There was some more work on the phone pole: Six guys showed up and two of them dug shallow holes while the other four watched. One of the guys then whacked something in the hole very hard several times. Then they filled in the holes again and stood around talking for an hour. I’m sure this was some important, complex process the subtleties of which I don’t fully understand.

In other important news, the restrooms at Matthew’s Beach Park are open again! Awesomeness to the fifth degree!
Gasworks (whose restrooms are open year-round) has been crazy-crowded and so has Lake Union – boats of all shapes and sizes in the water and kites of all color in the sky and lots of folks in the park enjoying the views of it all.
