Paintings and sketches

I'm way behind on posting here since there's a lot of overhead in getting good scans and photos.  I've been doing a lot of painting and sketching - that's the upside of the pandemic.  I'm trapped in an art studio in Monterey.

OK, one of those is a painting of China, but I just got around to photographing it!

A random smattering of sketches and pictures from the coast...

Sketches pre- and post-fires

Well those fires sure ruined a few weekends - talk about freaky and bad air to boot.  Many thanks to the 14,000 firefighters (you read that right) working across California to contain these.  Meanwhile, here's some sketches from the last few weekends.

Pen and ink and colored pencil (with occasional watercolor)

Ocean sketches

Some more sketches from my weekly walk to the ocean.  Now that they got hard-nosed about the mask law, going for a walk along the ocean is quite nice (but I still leave before the crowds show up).

Digital nocturne

The easiest way to draw in the dark is with a screen that glows.

Painting the ocean

A few sketches from the sketchbook and postcards.  My weekly trips to the water, and a pole full of wires.

More postcards from quarantine

Oddly, the fact that I'm home all the time means that I have more time to create postcards, so many people have been getting drawings of random artistic quality on the front and even more random thoughts on the back.

Many of these are the view from home.

A number are the tidepools and ocean that are a mile from my house (which I would spend much more time at if it weren't for a pandemic)

And a few are from Venice - courtesy of a very creative Urban Sketcher who found a nice video online, which a bunch of us watched together, and then she paused in a few places for us to sketch.
